Speaking for myself, I can say there is no motivation to do so.

I run a cluster which is geographically distributed over a lowish bandwidth 
(highish latency) network.  I have mixed read/write query distribution, but 
less than 25 users.  There is a performance hit due to the geographic 
distribution and the bandwidth, but it is small price to pay for what we get 
in return.
