I would recommend 3.3, 4.1, 4.2, or 4.3.  Those are tested daily against 
development snapshots.  Other 3.x and 4.x versions should also work, but 
last century's 2.x versions do not work anymore.

Newer versions should work, but won't have had as much testing yet so 
there could be a few warnings or errors (e.g. for missing #includes).
